Are you passionate about improving health and well-being in schools? Do you want to make a difference for yourself and other students nationwide? Here’s your opportunity to do that- and get paid for your time.

The National Technical Assistance Center for Adolescent Health and Well-being is recruiting Student Health and Resource Experts (SHAREs).

As a SHARE, you’d be joining an Advisory Council of ~15 youth between the ages of 14-21 and adults, working together to create healthier, safer, and more supportive school environments.

Reasons to Become a Student Health and Resource Expert (SHARE)

Make a Difference: You’ll help shape how schools across the country address health and well-being, providing solutions to challenges that schools face in promoting mental and physical health and well-being.

Leadership Experience: This opportunity will help you develop leadership, teamwork, and advocacy skills, which could be added to your resume, college applications, and future job opportunities.

Collaborate with Like-Minded Peers: You’ll meet with other youth from across the country, forming a network of passionate, like-minded individuals.  

Train Adults: Not only will you be part of decision-making processes, but you’ll also help train adults on how to meaningfully engage youth in health and well-being efforts.


 

What would you be doing as a SHARE?

  • Attending 8-10 virtual meetings from October 2025 to August 2026, each lasting about 90 minutes.
  • Contributing ideas for overcoming challenges that schools face in promoting healthy environments.
  • Guide school staff, administrators, and adult Advisory Council members on how to effectively involve students in shaping healthier school environments.

Frequently Asked Questions


What will the time commitment be for this?  

  • Each virtual meeting will last approximately 90 minutes, and may include some pre or post meeting work. The estimated workload is about 40 hours total between October 2025 and August 2026 (about 5 hours/month).

What is the age range for this role?

  • The age range is 14-21 years old.

When will meetings start, and how often will they take place?  

  • Meetings will start in October 2025 and we will meet 8-10 times between October 2025 and August 2026. We will have a monthly standing meeting and opportunities for 1-2 additional meetings as needed. All meetings will be virtual.  

What is the compensation rate for this work?

  • SHAREs will be compensated at $30/hour for the duration of the project

How long is my commitment to SHARE?

  • We are looking for members to commit to October 2025 through August 2026.  

Can you tell me more about the National Technical Assistance Center for Adolescent Health and Well-Being?

  • Of course! The purpose of the National Technical Assistance Center for Adolescent Health and Well-Being is to provide education agencies with high-quality research-based technical assistance and professional development on the three core strategies of the What Works in Schools approach, and other evidence-based efforts. What Works in Schools is an approach to school-based health that has been shown to improve health behaviors, support mental health, and reduce suicidality in schools that implement the program.
  • The program works by improving health education, connecting young people to health services they need, and making school environments safer and more supportive.
  • The National Technical Assistance Center for Adolescent Health and Well-Being will provide services through a centralized website and a “one stop shop” for training, technical assistance and resources related to the What Work in Schools approach, the CDC Professional Development Practices, and other topics related to school-based and adolescent health.
