This week marks the 30th anniversary of National Public Health Week (NPHW), created by the American Public Health Association (APHA).
APHA developed this campaign to unite communities nationwide to celebrate public health successes, look ahead to upcoming challenges, and create a vision for the future. The theme this year, “It Starts Here,” is in recognition of how public health starts with each of us making a difference in our homes and communities.
ETR is a proud champion of science with over 40 years in the public health field. Every resource we create in collaboration with the collective of talented, multidisciplinary staff at our organization and our partners takes us one step closer to a world where all individuals and communities achieve their best health.
P.S. We’re hiring for a Chief Science Officer! If you're interested in joining our team or know someone who would be a great fit, share this link and learn more at: etr.my/careers
Watch On-Demand: Building a Healthier Future for Youth with Technology
The use of technology has been instrumental to the advancement of public health. From the innovative use of telemedicine to leveraging health information technology (IT) to prevent disease, diagnose health conditions, and promote health for communities.
It’s vital that this field centers youth to address the specific health issues they face. Learn more about this topic on-demand by watching a recording from YTH Live Global 2024.
It features a panel discussion that explores innovative tech-focused strategies to address health disparities among youth. Youth and adult experts from dfusion Inc. and the National Coalition for Sexual Health share their experiences in harnessing the power of technology to improve access to care, promote wellness, and empower young people. Watch time: 40 minutes.
Case Study: Learn About the Importance of Educational Material Development
Advancing public health involves the creation of materials and resources that reach the communities most impacted. We’re excited to share that the Tobacco Education Clearinghouse of California (TECC), a project of ETR, published their first case study summary, highlighting a material campaign intended for pregnant mothers and their families, by United Indian Health Services, Inc. (UIHS).
The summary highlights several best practices for educational material development, and while this work does not represent all Native populations in California, it provides guidance and best practices specific to UIHS’ local Tribal populations in Northern California that may be of value to others. Estimated read time: 4 minutes.

Connect With Us: An ETR Project is Searching for Black-led Nonprofits to Help Develop a Training
ETR collaborates with a variety of underrepresented communities in the public health landscape to empower them in their work. Leadership In Black (LIB), a project of ETR, focuses on advancing Black health and leadership, specifically within the nonprofit sector.
This project seeks to understand the wants and needs of organizations led by Black women and Black LGBTQ+ individuals for the team to develop a training that addresses the essentials required for newer nonprofits to thrive.
To accomplish this task, LIB is searching for organizations leading transformative change within their communities. Organizations that partner with them for this work will receive the completed training for FREE and will be a part of the pilot program! Want to work with them? Learn how at the dark blue button above.
