FREE Resources for National Drug and Alcohol Facts Week

Young people sitting in a circle while happily talking in a classroom.

National Drug and Alcohol Facts Week (NDAFW) is an annual event dedicated to educating youth about drug use and addiction with science-based resources.

Providing young people with facts on substance use empowers them to make informed decisions about their health. This observance helps them learn skills on overdose awareness and response, refusing substances, and healthy coping strategies for stress.

At ETR, health education is a vital component of our work. When youth and communities are educated in supportive spaces with science-informed materials, it increases their chances to realize their full potential as students and citizens, as well as achieve their best health.

Read the Blog

NDAFW brings together educators, students, healthcare providers, and community partners to exchange information on alcohol and drug use. It is also timely for parents, caregivers, and trusted adults to have pivotal conversations with young people that can reduce the likelihood of risk and promote healthy behaviors.

You can prepare for conversations with a young person about underage drinking by checking out our latest blog, “7 Tips for Talking to Teens About Drinking Alcohol.” While most teenagers don’t consume alcohol, young people ages 12 to 20 drink 3% of all alcohol consumed in the United States.

Make a meaningful impact on the young people in your lives by keeping the conversation at the forefront with these tips in mind. Estimated read time: 4 minutes.

According to the National Center for Drug Abuse Statistics (NCDAS), 4.9% of 12 to 17-year-olds, abuse prescriptions annually in the United States. It's important to educate young people on healthy decision making to prevent this kind of misuse.

To elevate your next teaching lesson about prescription drug misuse, download a FREE HealthSmart activity on the topic. HealthSmart is ETR’s skills-based, K-12 curriculum that’s customizable to align with local and state standards while providing key concepts, which develop and support healthy behaviors for a lifetime.

This activity features small stories paired with drug labels and examples of whether a character’s drug use was prescribed, misused, or abused. It also comes with a teacher key that has the correct answers. Download the activity at the dark blue button above!
